An Austrian family working in Chile's best winegrowing region- the Colchagua Valley - turns out this outstanding blend of 4 grapes. It's 50% Syrah - for meaty, savory, richness - and 30% Carmenere - giving plumpness and herbal complexity - plus 10% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot for a touch of snap on the finish and dark violets on the nose and palate. Around 10 months in French oak adds spice and roundness, but doesn't overwhelm the generous ripe fruit.
This is what we call “a savory red,” meaning that the deep, brambly, black fruit is matched by layers of spice, underbrush, smoked meat and fresh earth character. You’ll get more earthy, savory, notes on the nose and then bigger, more juicy, black fruit on the palate with lingering notes of tobacco, brush, and campfire under the fruit on the long, complex, finish. A terrific wine for game and lamb or pretty much anything kissed with a touch of smoke from the grill. Great value, too.
