This is wildly delicious and drinkable Cabernet Franc, intentionally made to capture Saumur style and California sunshine. Winemaker Taylor Berkley Boydstun uses Sonoma and Lake County fruit here with 25% whole clusters and aging in oak and amphorae. The aromatics, plump fruit and crisp tannins are all in perfect balance.
As Wine Enthusiast gushes in the 94 point review, “This wine is vibrant, fresh, with aromas of boysenberry confiture, dark plum, fresh green herbs, potpourri, and cocoa nib on the nose. The flavors on the palate blueberry compote, red currant, Pink grapefruit zest, clove, and a dry supple finish.” It’s delicious with everything from burgers to lamb or simple grilled veggies with lots of wild herbs.
For You If: You enjoy the aromas, flavors and savory vibrancy of the best Loire Valley Cabernet Franc and are ready to get all that with a juicy jolt of ripe California fruit; you’re looking for a wine sophisticated enough to impress and delicious enough to just slug down with joy.
Not For You If: You’re after super crunchy fruit – this has moved along to something a bit softer/more generous – or bell pepper instead of black pepper.
