An old (13th century) St Emilion estate making great strides and, here, giving a terrifically drinkable 80% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc blend done in 50% new oak. Jeb Dunnuck describes it well in his 92 point review, “Rock-solid aromatics of red and black fruits, spice, flowers, and subtle background oak all emerge from the 2020 Château La Commanderie, a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, elegant Saint-Emilion that has ripe tannins and a great finish. A complete, incredibly satisfying, impressive 2020 to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years, it's easily the finest wine I've tasted from this château.”
For You If: You’re looking for plenty of authentic Bordeaux character in a wine built to be drunk with all kinds of food or even solo; you’re after Bordeaux that shines now and will improve for another decade-plus.
Not For You If: You’re after either something austere and light or rich, velvety and powerful – this drinks in between those extremes.
