Organic/Bio Patrick Marillier began helping other Burgundy growers convert to organic farming in 1992 and began his own small cellar a few years later. Today his son, Stephane, uses the same minimalist winemaking approach from certified organic vines and with minimal sulfur. This is from vines outside Nuits St. George and it's the kind of Pinot that you immediately know comes from Burgundy. There's a dark iron/blood note at the core of the black and Bing cherry fruit with excellent concentration up front and mid-palate and then amazing lightness and freshness on the flowing finish. Drink now and over the next five years.
For You If: You're having roast chicken, rare duck breast or confit, lentils with sausage - pretty much any classic French bistro dish is going to shine with this beauty; you're looking for the classic Burgundy blend of earth and fruit in a wine that remains easy enough to drink pop-n-pour tonight.
Not For You If: You're looking for big, grippy, structure - this finishes fine and supple; you don't like anything earthy in your wines - this has plenty of fruit but also a definite savory/iron character.
