Running up the lower slopes towards Corton Renardes, the 1er Cru Lolliers vineyard gives dark red fruit with plenty of structure and excellent cellar potential In 2021, Pascal’s rendition is a touch more fresh and bright than usual, but this is still all dark raspberry and cherry fruit at the core. The 100% whole-cluster fermentation bring noticeable spice while 18 months in 50% new French oak adds a touch of smoky campfire. Even in a more “classic” vintage like 2021, these 80 year-old vines deliver plenty of concentration. There’s so much richness that this is already a delight with a grilled steak and frites. Give it 5-15 years and it will add the complexity needed to match beef wellington.
For You If: You’re looking for some grip in your red Burgundy to match the youthful dark red fruit and floral/spice accents.
Not For You If: You’re after something either thick or smooth – this has amplitude, but is trimly focused and isn’t harsh, but has noticeable grip.
