Ten years in, Laura Brennan Bissell is making a name for herself for crafting wines of elegance, purity and honesty that remain full of California weight and fruit. This is her Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc blend from Clarksburg and the Sierra Foothills, all aged in used oak from Larkmead. Powerful, juicy, red and black fruit stand out on the core with a nicely silky feel and flowing, dry, finish. A lot of wine here for the price tag.
For You If: You’re looking for something to drink with a really good steak, meaning you’ve spent a lot of money and care on the beef and want a wine that both complements it and doesn’t cover it up.
Not For You If: You’re looking for Caymus-style plushness/thickness/sweetness – this has lovely fruit and texture but is mainly silky, pure, finessed.
