After leaving Ravenswood, Joel Peterson created this project to make old-school wines from some of the same old-vine sites he used at Ravenswood. Fermentations are in redwood, yeast is native, punchdowns by hand, and the grapes stay on the skins a long, long, time. This is his "welcome wine" to the project, a gutsy blend of Merlot and Petit Sirah that delivers huge ripeness, dark fruit, dark chocolate and a big burst of oak spice. A classic California cookout red.
For You If: You enjoy old-fashioned California reds that put the fruit first and oaky spice on the back with a creamy feel and just-right grip.
Not For You If: You're looking for subtly or finesse - this is a big, right in your face, red to enjoy with BBQ and burgers off the grill.
