Vailia From created Desparada to make rich, flowing, deep, expressions of Central Coast wines from some of the region's very best vineyards. Sackcloth & Ashes has always been our favorite here as the deepest, richest, more dense of the set. In 2022, it's 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Petit Verdot, 15% Petit Verdot plus a splash of Cab Franc. Violets and lavender over plummy black fruit and a dollop of milk chocolate really explode from the glass. Vailia's ability to keep all this fruit and flesh feeling fresh and drinkable is astounding.  

For You If:   You want the kind of texture normally found in Caymus or Belle Glos wines but with less interventionist winemaking and no residual sugar; you're looking for a big wine with big fruit - almost fruit-bomb levels - that stays balanced, drinkable and dry.

Not For You If:   You're in the mood for something elegant or restrained - this if very full-throttle and 16%, but, again, stays balanced and fresh.
