An utterly lovely white Burgundy reaching far beyond what you’d expect from Mercurey Chardonnay. It comes from a “monopole” vineyard of the Chateau and vines planted between 1961 and 1997. Wine Enthusiast describes it well in their 95 point rave, “This wine boasts a dynamic aromatic expression of ripe Meyer lemon, green pear, and gardenia, accented by vanilla pod and stone. Bright acidity is balanced by texture and warm baking spices, revealing complexity with a refreshing hint of ocean spray that tempers its richness and power.” It’s very young and will be even better from 2028 but it’s already delicious especially if you give it a bit of air.
For You If: You’re looking for white Burgundy that captures the rich ripeness of a warm year like 2020 with the texture, minerality and salinity of a much cooler harvest; you’re after something to age a little bit – this is going to be its very best from 2028-2034.
Not For You If: You’re looking for just minerality and cut – this has that in abundance packaged with nicely rich fruit and mouthfeel.
