Organic/Bio Only 1er Cru for white since 2001, Sous Fretille is on the limestone rich and south-facing lower slopes of a hill next to Corton. Made all in barrel (25% new), it’s a lovely, almost delicate, expression of white Burgundy, very pure and with a seductively silky feel. Stone fruit, lemon curd and toasted hazelnut aromas and flavors flow easily through a sustained, buttered nut-inflected, finish. This will certainly improve for 5-8 years but is utterly delightful to drink now.
For You If: You’re after silky, pure, white Burgundy that charms with finesse more than impressing with power.
Not For You If: You’re in the mood for something really rich or noticeably austere – this is on the delicate side of Chardonnay but not at all grippy or sharp.
