This release of Cuvee M is 95% Chardonnay with 25% from vintage 2018 – a warm, rich, harvest – and 75% from a perpetual reserve from 2002. The reserve’s age and composition makes it less rich and fruity than the current harvest, giving the final wine both complexity and a sense of freshness otherwise hard to capture in these climate-change times. After blending the wine spent 60 months/5 years in bottle before disgorgement and finishing at 4.5 g/l dosage.
Audrey Frick’s 93 point write-up in JebDunnuck.com captures what we taste very nicely: “The nose takes on a more layered but still very fresh style, with notes of fresh pastry dough, sweet citrus, poached apple, and fresh linen. It’s very elegant all the way through, with a delicately pillowing and refined mousse, a rounded feel in a medium bodied frame, and a clean, floating finish. A lovely wine, it’s drinking fantastically now but will age well for the next 7-8 years.”
For You If: You love elegant, pure, and very supple Blanc de Blancs-style Chanpagne that marries lovely and pure fruit to salty minerality and a nicely toasty base note.
Not For You If: You're looking for power - this is more elegant - or the red-fruit character of a Pinot-based cuvee.
