Lower ABV When you find a Willamette Valley Pinot in the bag of very Francophile importer Ed Addiss, you suspect something interesting is happening. And when you taste this, you'll know your suspicious were justified! Darrel Roby is quietly making just plain lovely Pinot Noir from five sites across the valley, fully destemmed, and raised in a mix of Stockinger (Austrian) oak, French oak foudre, concrete egg barrique and punchon. It's just beautiful with notes of crushed raspberry, sour orange, rhubarb, pomegranate and a pinch of nutmeg. Pure, intense, very lithe and lively in feel and with super-fine tannins, it's a joy to sip and will be the life of the party on most any table. A terrific value, too.
For You If: You're after Pinot Noir's elegant, pure, layered side, a wine that's more pretty than pretentious but with plenty of attention-grabbing substance, too.
Not For You If: You're looking for richness, plushness or velvet - this is more silk and lace, but don't be fooled - there's a ton of flavor here!
