Lower ABV All Dijon 115 Clone, this is one of Patricia Green Cellars' most boisterous, fruit-filled, and immediately delicious Pinot Noirs, but still possessing plenty of cellar potential and complexity. Really intense aromas of red berry and cherry fruit with hints of blood orange, spice and berry blossom accents jump from the glass. In the mouth, tons of generous ripe and fresh fruit flavors really coat your palate with a sense of density and flesh, but absolutely zero excess weight or fat. Finishes smooth and generous and with a very satisfying note of spice.
Jim Anderson never intended to make this wine – the initial Durant Vyd Pinot Noir was all Pommard from what’s known as the Bishop Block. But in 2012 a hail storm wiped out the Bishop Block, and the winery was offered Madrone Block as a replacement. The wine was so different – so much more fruit and flesh – that they decided to continue with both blocks going forward. As Jim says, “Almost certainly, this is the single vineyard designate with the most upfront appeal to it. This will show sweet red fruits which are certainly a staple of the vintage with classic Dundee Hill sweet spices. Hard not to like.”
"The bright magenta 2021 Pinot Noir Durant Vineyard Madrone Block is forward with lush mixed fruit of wild berry compote, pressed flowers, and wet stone. It feels primary up front but brings fine tannins, ripe fruit, and an undercurrent of fresh acidity and intensity. It’s generous with fruit yet has enough structure to cruise over the next 6-8 years."
