From the warmer southern part of the zone and a dry, hot, year, this should be a bruiser. And it is plenty big and muscular, but ridgetop vineyards open to cooling breezes deliver elegance, too. Vinous captures it well in the 93 point review:
"An early look at the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte presents a youthfully coy yet darkly alluring effort. Grilled herbs, crushed rocks, dried blackberries, cherries and clove form its beguiling bouquet. Despite its intensity on the nose, this is lifted and cool-toned within, with a saturation of tart primary fruits that drench the senses in youthful concentration. Structured and potent, the 2020 finishes with dramatic length, leaving a tart cranberry resonance and edgy tannins that tug at the palate." Give it a couple of years and enjoy for another 10+
For You If: You’re after Brunello showing definite power and grip but staying away from "heavy" - this is fully ripe and expansive at just 13.5% alcohol.
Not For You If: You're looking for Brunello that washes over you with super-ripe, even baked, fruit flavors - this stays more fresh; you're after a pop-n-pour selection for tonight - there are substantial tannins here that need air and/or time in cellar.
