Julia’s Zuccardi’s dad named this winery for her when he created it in 1982 and today it’s one of Agrentina’s largest organic vineyards, a leading explorer of natural wines, and still making some of the finest value for money wines we’ve found anywhere in the world. Like this rich, deep, cookout and sipping blend of oak-aged 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Franc from Mendoza’s Uco Valley that impressed us and international wine critics, too.
The wine packs a seriously fun wallop of flavor and texture. Plump, juicy and supported by soft tannins, it’s easy to just drink without thought. But pay attention and you’ll find what JamesSuckling.com noted in their 92 point write-up: “Dark cherries, spices and touches of chiles, chocolate and violets. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with fleshy fruit in the mid-palate and an impressive tension that weaves everything together. Firm, fine-grained and long. Drink or hold.” Drink now and over the next five years or so as a cocktail red and, even better, with burgers or anything off the grill.
For You If: You’re looking for a big feeling red with loads of fruit and chocolate richness and a soft, open feel that can still stand up to burgers, lamb or steak off the grill; you enjoy Mendoza Malbec and want one that has a little extra lift and complexity from spicy Cab Franc.
Not For You If: You’re after grippy tannins – this is pretty smooth – or lots of oak flavors – this aged 10 months in barrel, but used wood that shaped rather than flavored the wine.
