If you want to know what “mountain Pinot” tastes like – and, really, you DO! – taste this. From three sites at 1,000+ feet elevation in Monterey, there’s a huge amount of dark fruit here, but the wine stays away from “fruity” due to a nice dollop of rich earth and spice and structure from 60% whole clusters. Virginia Boone describes it perfectly in her 96 point JebDunnuck.com review, “Displays a rocky, creamy, velvety texture and tremendous red fruit, while retaining aromatics of rose and dried herb. The grapes were 60% whole-cluster fermented, contributing impressive texture and a highly enjoyable, complex experience of elegance and light-bodied intensity.” Just 12.7% and with the structure and power to shine with salmon, duck, etc. Compelling stuff.
For You If: You want to drink Pinot Noir that’s on the duskier side of things with more than enough fruit and texture to be satisfying and a light, elegant, feel.
Not For You If: You’re looking for rich or fleshy or fruity Pinot – this is more savory and elegant.
