Having created Pingus - the great estate of Ribera del Duero and one of the greats in the world - Peter Sisseck created Psi to explore the region's "soul" and, especially, the unrealized potential of many of its great vineyards. This is fully ripe but not at all sweetly fruited or fat. As Vinous says in the 92-93 point review, "Garnet colored, it opens with pine and herbal notes, then red fruit—cherry and a touch of plum. The palate shows fine-grained tannins, a midweight texture and detailed fruit.
For You If: You love the mixture of black fruit and blood orange that Ribera Tempranillo shows when it’s perfectly ripe and not crushed by oak; you want a perfect match for steak or lamb that shows more freshness and savory character than a Napa Cab and less oak that most Rioja.
Not For You If: You’re after the tart tang and American oak spice of traditional Rioja or the broad fruit and French oak flavors of most traditional Ribera del Duero.
"The 2022 PSI is clean, expressive and open, much more approachable than the more reductive 2021 that I tasted next to it. It's primary, fruit-driven and precise. It has contained ripeness and a polished texture and is sleek and elegant, with fine tannins. It feels like a step up from 2021."
