Organic/Bio Lower ABV Malandes has two small plots of vines here, one facing south and planted in 1967 and the other more north and planted in 1987. The oak program at Malandes has been evolving looking to maximize the positive impacts of wood on texture and refinement while minimizing any oak flavors in the finished wine. It's usually more open that Les Clos but has extra concentration and intensity this year.
As JancisRobinson.com says in the 17.5/20 points review, "Golden apple, golden stone fruit, the first hint of oak on the nose, but it’s still the fruit which sings. Has a lovely arc of acidity – signature gentle, but like all these Malandes wines, fluvial lines and movement. A touch of citrus pith, a touch of lemon and lime, and then into a much more stony finish. Cold stones. Not crunchy and not chalky – it's the texture of river pebbles. This needs time."
For You If: You're after "stony" Chablis - as the review says, river pebbles vs charlk - and can wait a bit or decant so it can unwind.
Not For You If: You're looking for something easy drinking and immediate - this is intense!
