"Marachelle" = "practical joke" and this is all about that kind of silly fun. It's 60% Durella - the native grape of this part of the Veneto - plus Chardonnay with second fermentation in bottle but then no disgorgement. Drinks clear if you stand it up a while or cloudy if you shake it up. As Vinous says, it's "spicy with an inviting blend of ground ginger and dusty dried flowers offsetting crisp yellow apples. This soothes with a massaging wave of mineral-stained bubbles giving way to tropical citrus. It finishes wickedly fresh with a slightly bitter twang that puckers the cheeks." Kind of like Pet-Nat, but with cleaner, more traditional, sparkling wine flavors. A terrific back porch sipper on a warm, sunny, day!
For You If: You're looking for something refreshing and fun to share on a picnic or at a warm-weather hangout with or without food.
Not For You If: You're not up for at least a little cloudiness - the lees that made the bubbles are still in the bottle, adding a nice touch of chalky grip to this fruit-filled and refreshing sparkler.
