An excellent take on old-fashioned Bordeaux, clean and fresh like a modern wine but also stylishly austere and restrained. The 30-50 year old Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) vines are mainly on clay/limestone soils but with a portion on sand and gravel that aids in richness and flesh. Black currant and blackberry fruit is wrapped in notes of earth, stone, cedar and tobacco and complemented by a touch of smoke and spice from 12 months in French oak (all used). Just a tad more plump in 2022, but still admirably classic.

For You If:   You enjoy classic Right Bank Bordeaux that delivers both ripe fruit and savory complexity in an easygoing, accessible, style.

Not For You If:   You’re looking for fruit-forward or grippingly austere Bordeaux – this threads that needle nicely.
