Lower ABV This is real Lambrusco made from real (and red) Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes, gently pressed to extract 30-40% of the potential juice free and clear of any color or tannin. Then 36 months on the lees and more time post-disgorgement to pick up plenty of Champagne-like character. Vinous captures it perfectly in their note, “Savory and herbal in the glass with crushed apples and nuances of brown spice. This is silky smooth with stimulating acidity that excites the senses as tart orchard fruits and saline minerals slowly saturate toward the close. The 2016 tapers off with a salty flourish and a tinge of lemon oils that slightly puckers the cheeks and keeps the mouth watering for more.”
For You If: You’re in the mood for “Italian Champagne,” meaning NOT something that tastes like Champagne that just happens to be made in Italy but a wine that melds Champagne-style and Italian verve to create something deliciously new.
Not For You If: You’re looking for “real” Champagne or Prosecco – this is just a tad too much fun for Champagne and so outclasses Prosecco that it’s hard to believe.
