From a vineyard at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains and mostly vines planted in 1922, you'd expect this to be big, thick and heavy. And while it is rich, it's also pretty darn vibrant. The WE review of the 2021 edition suggests what's in store for you: "This bottling, mostly from 1922-planted vines, is a uniquely intellectual spin on Zinfandel, proving unlike most other takes on the grape and somewhat simple, yet constantly calling out for attention. Aromas of red plum, cranberry and light herbs lead into light strawberry, dried meat and more herb tones, as well as a hint of blood. These elements all grow more ethereal with time." Sure, BBQ ribs are a classic match but duck breast with cherries would be a lot of fun, too!
For You If: You like the big, rich, plummy, fruit of Zin and the bramble and wild herb accents with enough freshening acidity to let the wine work with food, not overwhelm it.
