Verdelho was nearly lost on Madeira in favor of more productive grapes and Broadbent has been a force in bringing this salty, tangy, zingy varietal back to prominence. The brisk acids need just a very light touch of sweetness to stay in balance, lifting the complex flavors bitter almond, powdered green tea, sesame and salted caramel. A terrific match for savory dishes like seafood bisque or potato leek tart.
