Pinot Grigio made in the old style, sometimes called “Ramato” or “copper” in Italian. The light purple-pink skins of Pinot Gris are crushed and allowed to soak in the juice, extracting a shimmering pink/copper color and a very fine dollop of tannins before the must is drained and the free run juice allowed to ferment. After fermentation, the wine ages mostly in tank, although 10% rests in old oak casks to develop more texture still.
Vinous describes it well in their 92 point review: "With a pretty coppery hue, the 2024 Pinot Grigio Jesera opens with a refreshing bouquet of wildflowers, stone dust and nuances of gingery spice. It’s soft textured with a silken wave of ripe pit fruits underscored by tactile mineral tones and a core of brisk acidity. This finishes long and perfumed, leaving a subtle grippiness as hints of Asian pear slowly fade."
For You If: You want to drink Pinot Grigio with real preseence and mouthfeel - this leaves an attractive, pithy, grip to balance the ripe fruit.
Not For You If: You're looking for light, neutral, Pinot Grigio - this bursts with character and flavor!
