The guys behind "The Dude" do it again, this time with a very well-crafted Cabernet from Stags Leap that sells for a LOT less than you'd expect once you taste it. As usual, we don’t know who grew the grapes, but it was on an east-facing vineyard spared 2020s smoke and ripening fully without excess fat or fruit. The signature plushness and richness of Stags Leap is here along with deep blackcurrant/berry fruit and a fine layer of spice, ceder, violets and wild herb. The wine has plenty of guts and finishes fine, firm, and very inviting. It will probably improve for 3-5 years, but good to pop, pour and enjoy tonight. Bravo!
For You If: You love the wonderful plush texture of Stags Leap Cab but not so much the $100 price tags most bottles carry; you’re looking for a Napa Cab that delivers plenty of weight and punch but isn’t trying too hard – more a wine to drink than talk about.
Not For You If: You’re after the firm, gripping, tannins of mountainside fruit; you prefer your Napa Cabs super-ripe and with zero cedar/herb component.
