Sure, let’s sell a $60 wine from a place most don’t know and a winery NO ONE has ever heard of! But it’s just so very, very, good. The place is Valtellina in the Alpine mountains of northern Lombardy, the grape Nebbiolo (plus 5% Pignola), the vineyards crazy steep, and the winery a tiny, 1.5HA, father/son family affair making 400 cases of wine per year. Maraschino cherry, rose petals, leather, cocoa, mushrooms and more show on the nose and palate where the wine really dances on its platform of juicy acids and delicate (if substantial) tannins. A wine you can spend an evening enjoying the company of or just pop, pour and enjoy.
For You If: You’re up to join in a passion project – for the winegrowers and us! – and ready to be delighted by Nebbiolo’s classic perfume in a lighter, more red-fruited, style.
Not For You If: If you don’t already love Valtellina or the “For You” didn’t convince you, this is probably NOT for you – it’s expensive, obscure, and probably not your cup of tea and if you pass on it, it just leaves more for us to drink!
