There's no better vineyard in Oregon's Willamette Valley than the Yamhill-Carlton vineyard Dick Shea planted in 1989. And while Ken Wright made it famous, since 1996 Dick's team has made terrific wine here too. His 2019 is delicious, with deep red berry fruit and layers of spicy, smoky, complexity.
"Fresh, spice-accented red fruits, candied flowers and allspice on the fragrant nose, along with vanilla and smoky mineral notes in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, showing very good energy to the raspberry, cherry preserve and spicecake flavors. Becomes fleshier with air and finishes long and smooth, with sneaky tannins and repeating florality. The 2019s here are lovely wines, showing noteworthy fruit intensity and depth, combined with energy and sharp definition. The oak signature is there, but not at all excessive for Pinot Noir at such an early stage of its development, and from an excellent year to boot."
