From a tiny, half-hectare, vineyard of 100+ year-old vines on crazy steep slopes above the River Sil, this is a benchmark Ribeira Sacra Mencia from Raul Perez. There's a genuine lushness to the texture - that's the old vines at work! - with explosive flavors of crunchy raspberry, black cherry, wild herbs, flowers, sweet spice and more. Mouthfilling and bold, it finishes salty witth fine, firm, tannins. A fabulous match with dry-aged beef, but just as tasty with cured meats, hard cheeses, and meaty fish. Brilliant.
For You If: You like the most pure and exciting expressions of Mencia or, for that matter, Malbec, Carmenere or Cabernet Franc (two grapes part of Mencia's family tree).
Not For You If: You're looking for something richly oaked - it's a nuance here - or you hate any herbal/floral notes in your reds.
