Organic/BioThere’s plenty of story here, but the bottom line is really simple: this is wildly delicious unoaked Chardonnay that you’ll love drinking and find yourself reaching for again and again. It comes what was once among the largest Roman cities outside of Italy and is now the smallest wine region in Austria, Carnuntum. On gravel-laced soils left behind by the Danube river and the windblown glacial soils called loess blown in from the Alps, Chardonnay develops terrific ripeness balanced by fabulous vibrancy and cut. No need for any oak here – the organically grown fruit Christina harvested needs no help at all!
Generous aromas of ripe yellow pear, sliced apple and a touch of hazelnut really grab your attention. Then, on the palate, there’s perfect balance between the rich density of mouthfeel and the zippy, freshening, lemony acids. Flavors of Anjou pear and Golden Delicious apple are joined by a tiny hint of pink grapefruit and lovely accents of ripe cherry that builds with air. It really glides across your palate, spreading out into a generous, broad, long-lasting finish of orchard fruits, citrus, and lightly dusty minerality. We just can’t imagine a better all-purpose house white than this, a wine that will play nicely with whatever food you put on the table, drinks wonderfully by itself, and has more than enough going on to keep you engaged as you finish the case (may be a good idea to buy two!).
