Mendoza Malbec is often hidden under a layer of thick, chocolaty, oak. Here there’s no oak sheen, so the grape’s black fruit and wild herb character shines through. It’s black as night in color with herb and hot stone flavors showing up first before a big glumpf of fruit coats your palate and flows through a very long and dusky finish with a hint of rose hip. A great all-purpose red for solo sipping, cookouts, casual meals and sharing with friends.
For You If: You like how Mendoza Malbec tastes and feels but don’t want the oak spice, chocolate and tannins; you’re after a red that both folks who like European and American wines will enjoy; you like something more than just fruit/oak in your reds.
Not For You If: You’re after the chocolate/spice layer new oak gives Malbec; you’re hankering for French Malbec from Cahors – this is juicier and smoother; you don’t like anything herbal/earthy in your wines – there’s a tiny touch of that here.
