Lower ABV Steve and Jill Klein Matthiasson make elegant, restrained, wines that still let you know they're from California. Like here in vibrant, generously ripe, Chardonnay from just outside Oak Knoll in Napa. Done in old oak, there's excellent purity to the apple and crisp pear fruit with enough citrus and minerality to give lift and refreshment but not make the wine tart. The fruit comes more and more forward with air where a little buttered hazelnut joins the party on the crisp finish. As delicious as it is solo, pair this with scallops or roasted poultry and enjoy the party!
For You If: You don't mind California Chardonnay where the mouthfeel is a little lighter than some so long as the flavors are just as big and satisfying.
Not For You If: You're committed to the buttery/oaky style of Cali Chard or looking for the mineral-before-fruit profile of classic Chablis.
