Lower ABV Giovanni Giordano was, at best, a “visionary” when he decided to start growing grapes in the very depressed commune of Barbaresco in the 1930s. And his son, Luigi, was close to nuts to start bottling and selling his own wine in 1958, before “Barbaresco” had even become a DOC. But today Luigi’s daughter, Laura, and grandson, Matteo, keep that sense of fun and adventure alive with wines like this – a juicy, fresh, classically-styled Barbera. Done all in steel, it’s full of crunchy black cherry and berry fruit with a hint of something floral and bold, mouthwatering, finish. A great pizza/pasta red, for sure, and also a gem to guzzle with a chill on a warm evening or glug out to guests with anything from burgers to snacks.
For You If: You're looking for a true all-purpose Italian red, one that can flow from salami to spaghetti to seared steak and burgers with ease; you enjoy big fruit and mouthfeel and soft tannins - this shows the grape's naturally low tannin without any oak to beef that up.
Not For You If: You're after the super-rich texture and balsamic notes or wood influence of many Alba Barberas - this is straight-ahead, varietal, joy.
