From one of Barbaresco’s best sites, this is super elegant and even Burgundian Nebbiolo redolent of sweet red fruits and loads of complex earth and spice accents. A cool ferment and relatively short stay in large cask – just 14-18 months – locks in the fruit and gives fine, firm, tannins. Already delicious, it’s got plenty of runway too.
As Wine Enthusiast says in the 95 point review, “This wine displays high-toned and bright wild berries, particularly raspberries, along with sweet spice and fresh thyme. The palate is super pretty, with fine tannins and a drinkability that will astound the senses. There is more stuffing in the wine, with lush cherry flavors, both fresh and preserved, yielding to oolong tea, pepper and earth on the finish. Drink 2025–2050.”
For You If: You love Asili Barbaresco - all strawberries, cherries, wild herb and spice - and want that full experience at a much lower price than this vineyard usually demands; you're after Burgundian, elegant, Barbaresco with a really wide drinking window.
Not For You If: You're after the kind of density and power found in Barolo or Barbaresco sites like Montesefano - this is more elegant, red fruited, pure.
