An “important” wine that delivers fully on its potential and price in 2023. For 50+ years, Jermann has been the benchmark for Friuli Venezia Giulia whites from the traditional Pinot Grigio to the pathbreaking Dreams Chardonnay. This is mostly Friulano (formerly called Tocai Friuliano) with a little Malvasia that’s co-planted in a hillside vineyard, picked late, given a few hours of skin contact, and fermented and aged in old oak.
It's wonderfully complex, flavorful and a little exotic, with aromas and flavors ranging from ripe apples and pears to tangerine peel, wildflower honey, smoked salt and more. It’s beautifully steely in feel and tightly focused while also definitely palate-coating and rich. Very mineral driven on the long, crisp, finish. This will improve over the next decade, but no need to wait!
For You If: You need a grand white for a great meal that includes raw or simply prepared seafood or poultry with lots of lemon and herbs.
Not For You If: You’re looking for something simple and direct – this is bold, engaging and a little exotic in the best possible way.
