Where Russian River Pinot is all about the fruit, move out to the Sonoma Coast (here just 4 miles from the Ocean) and things turn more savory and spiced. As Jeb Dunnuck says in the 93 point review, this "offers a riper feel, with savory spices and notes of sanguine iron-rich earth, dried cherries, and menthol. The palate is ripe and inviting, with a plush texture that remains medium-bodied."
For You If: You're looking for Pinot to pair with more savory foods including anything smoked, spiced, stewed or roasted.
Not For You If: You're after big fruit - there's plenty here, but the savory character is forward; you want Pinot that feels light or ethereal - this is hardly heavy but had a definite presence and weight.
