Dolcetto is Piemonte’s lunchtime and afternoon red – the kind of wine you enjoy with friends and casual food when the wine’s job is to quench your thirst and make everyone smile a bit. This is that, a rich and gutsy red with dark black cherry fruit and hints of cherry blossom and lavender flavors that fill your mouth and then wash away on a gush of crunchy cherry acids and fine, firm, tannins. Especially good with salami and cheese or olives all served solo or piled up on a pizza.
For You If: You’re looking for the Italian equivalent of a “bistro red” to enjoy with pretty much anything that lands on the table; you like wines that feel big but stay fresh and easy to keep drinking.
Not For You If: You’re after something “powerful” or well-oaked – this is hardly light, but grips easily and doesn’t offer any wood flavors.
