Pretty much everything you’d hope for in a classically-styled, old-school, Gigondas. It’s big and full with lots of black olive/garrigue and a big, grippy, finish. As Vinous says in the 93 point rave, “a total delight. Succulent red fruits mingle with floral tones and a pinch of dried herbs. Smooth tannins and bright acidity neatly structure this silky-textured Gigondas, which culminates with a concentrated, sapid finish.”
For You If: You’re after a classic, not all fruit, Southern Rhone red with plenty of garrigue and minerality and the size/volume to pair with lamb and rich, earthy, stews.
Not For You If: You’re after the spice/toast of new oak – all concrete there – or something really “smooth” – the tannins here are silky, but definitely present and have some grip.
