Frank Faugier is a little charismatic, definitely funny, and not terribly serious about anything other than making truly terrific Syrah in Crozes-Hermitage. He worked for Mars in Lyon for a while before coming back to his family's vineyards in 2003 and starting to bottle and sell wine from the family's grapes. Here he’s working with 100% Syrah from a stone-covered vineyard, 100% destemmed fruit, all used French oak. It’s loaded with ripe black fruits and a lively passionfruit/tropical note at the core before turning savory and stony on the fine, perfumed, finish. Hard not to guzzle down before dinner is done and then even better with anything savory, herb-laced, or smoky. Ready now – 2030.
For You If: You enjoy the savory/smoky notes Northern Rhone Syrah can give with an extra dose of crowd-pleasing dark fruit.
Not For You If: You’re looking for “bacon fat” – a classic Northern Rhone descriptor – or any hard edges – this is savory but juicy and easy.
