A winery that wants everyone to know: Oregon’s Willamette Valley is about more than just Pinot! This is from Yamhill-Carlton Viognier planted in 1999 and thought to be the oldest in the Willamette Valley. Fermented on the skins for 14 days and aged in Acacia, you might expect it to be a bit funky/appley – the way most orange wine shows.
Nope! As Wine Enthusiast said of the 2021 edition, “This extended skin-contact gem smells like the kitchen after peeling pecks of peaches.” Think super juicy, mid-season, cling peaches and you’re on the right track. Some accents of bergamot, wild herb and apricot give complexity to a soft, fleshy, super fruit-filled wine while a bit of gripping grape tannin gives shape and support. Just a delight.
For You If: You love peach flavors and fruitiness in a d dry wine with a just-right touch of grip.
Not For You If: You really don't like the flavor of fresh peaches - that's the whole game here!
