Lower ABV Chased out of post-phylloxera vineyards by higher-yielding Trebbiano, Pecorino was thought to be extinct until a few very old vines were discovered in the mid-1980s. Today it's arguably the flagship white of Italy's eastern coast south of Marche. This is from vines planted in 2000 and 2011 aged mainly in steel plus a bit in old, large, French oak casks. Under the bold aromas and flavors of wild herbs and exotic spice delicate lemon fruit and citrus blossom flavors pull you in and keep the wine flowing trough a salty, minerally, finish. Pretty brilliant with seafood and a fascinating taste of Abruzzo history.
For You If: You enjoy the salty minerality of wines like Albarino or Chablis and the savory character of grapes like Greco di Tufo.
Not For You If: You're looking for something mainstream to please a crowd of casual sippers - this is the kind of wine best enjoyed with time and attention.
