A wildly complex, not too sweet, and deserving of being sipped solo – or with a splash of soda – on the rocks Vermut from Tera Alta in Catalonia. It’s Macabeau base wine, darkened with dried green walnuts and flavored with a dizzying array of spices and more than 150 locally foraged herbs. The moderate sweetness, vibrant acidity and dark cola/root beer base make this delicious with anchovies, green olives or anything salty. Very limited though.
For You If: You already enjoy Vermouth as a cocktail alternative or spritz base for refreshing sipping; you’ve never tasted Vermouth outside a martini – this is something VERY different from that; you make homemade potato chips – that’s the classic Spanish match for nibbling with Vermouth while waiting for lunch or dinnertime to come around.
Not For You If: You’re looking for dry Martini vermouth – while the base wine here is white, the Vermouth is dark and sweetish and not especially gin-friendly.
