Years ago, the legendary Robert Parker called this, “Possibly the single greatest dry red wine value in the world.” That has never been more true that now in what is clearly the most delicious, easy-drinking, release of Borsao Garnacha ever. As always it's full rich red cherry/berry fruit with a savory dash of wild herb and pepper. And it's still really big in your mouth, but the tannins are more polished and silky than ever before. It's a crushingly good party and event red and perfect or any time you'll be opening more than one bottle. But don't snooze on this as a food wine. It's deep and rich enough for lamb or juicy burgers, zesty enough for pizza and pasta, and ready to play with meat or veggie dishes with lots of spice. And it remains the best sangria red ever.
Although we call this "Borsao Garnacha" - because that's how it was known two-plus decades ago when we first introduced it here - it's really a "Seleccion" of around 85-90% Garnacha and the rest Syrah and Tempranillo. All of it comes from the scraggly, often ancient, bush vines that dot the ochre-colored soils here, mostly tended by multi-crop farmers who scratch together a living from grapes, olives, cherries and maybe a desk job, too. It's made all in tank to keep the fruit fresh and while it can certainly hold a bit, it's really best fresh and juicy over the first couple of years from release.
For You If: Bold and gutsy reds are your thing and you don’t mind getting them at really low prices; you’re after a crowd-pleasing red that goes down well with or without food; you’re like me and just really like Garnacha/Grenache.
