Wine Arrives Wednesday, February 4. I’m not going to even attempt to give you the winery supplied backstory here, beyond saying a couple of friends from Texas launched this brand to make good California wine from purchased fruit. Winemaker Remington Jorgensen is young but clearly talented having worked with Ch Beaucastel in Chateauneuf du Pape, Rajat Parr’s Domaine de la Côte, and Opus One in Napa. This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma – we’d guess Sonoma Mountain – aged 20 months in 75% new French oak.
Jeb Dunnuck’s 92 point review gets at it nicely: “Lots of cassis, classy oak, spice, camphor, and hints of chocolate all emerge from the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County, a medium to full-bodied, juicy, classic Sonoma Cabernet delivering ripe tannins, plenty of fruit and opulence, and outstanding length.” The fruit is very much to the fore and has a refreshing juiciness to it and the oak adds some big spice. The finish is dusty and satisfying with just enough grip for a burger or steak. Solid wine at a remarkably good price.
For You If: You enjoy Cabs that are full of juicy fruit with a generous dollop of oak spice to drink solo and with food.
