Normally you see a nicely priced Chardonnay from the South of France and can safely assume it was done in tank to emphasize the ripe pineapple, pear and apple fruit. Here there was so much fruit – really, gobs of it – that giving the wine time in oak made sense to both tone things down a bit and add some creamy vanilla/coconut accents and a touch of spice. Think classic California oaked Chard with a French crème brulee twist and you’ll get the idea.
For You If: You like fun and frankly oaky Chardonnay with a lot of fruit at a lot less than you’d pay for it from California.
Not For You If: You don’t like oaky Chard!
