From Napa’s great – soon to be legendary – 2023 vintage and a vineyard on Atlas Peak, this one-time bottling is built to enjoy tonight – 2030 or so. It’s 94% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% each Petit Verdot and Merlot aged 16 months in 87% new French oak and the rest inf one used Pahlmeyer Merlot and Proprietary Red casks. And it’s 100% Pahlmeyer delicious.
My tasting notes focused on the “luscious” character of the black fruit and “plush and velvety” mouth feel. Winemaker Katie Vogt offers a more detailed note: “The Bench Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the quintessential character of Atlas Peak mountain fruit. Intense aromas of blackberry and boysenberry are underscored by subtle notes of white pepper. On the palate, plush layers of concentrated dark fruit complemented by elegant cocoa-chocolate tannins unfold with each sip. The balanced 2023 vintage brings remarkable focus and detail to the fruit, while the subtle impact of French oak imparts an opulent lingering sweetness.”
For You If: You love your Napa Cabs with a big, rich, plush, feel and loads of succulent dark fruit; you're looking for a bold Napa Cab to enjoy with or without food - this has the volume to handle dry-aged steak and the smooth, velvety, finish to satisfy solo.
