Lower ABV A good Vinho Verde is pretty much the perfect warm weather wine. And this is one of a pair of top-notch Vinho Verde, both from 100% Loureiro grapes grown on steeply sloped vineyards overlooking northern Portugal’s Lima River in the heart of the Vinho Verde zone. Here we have Vinho Verde from granite soils, where a relatively high pH drives excellent acid retention by the ripening grapes.
The fruit character is more “green” than in the schist bottling, showing aromas and flavors like ripe lime, green peach and tart Granny Smith apple. The texture is stonier and almost Riesling-like in its minerality – reminding us that Loureiro is sometimes called “the Riesling of Portugal” for its stony minerality and mouthtingling acidity. But the acidity is more subtle here and the mouthfeel more full with a broader, slightly softer, finish. Fish tacos with a squirt of lime would be a brilliant match as would any kind of spicy Thai dish where basil and lime shine through. But any sunny, warm, day would be a fine excuse to enjoy this all by itself!
For You If: You're looking for something that might be called "dry wine soda pop" - easy drinking, refreshing, a little mouthwatering, and priced to enjoy every day!
Not For You If: You're looking for lots of sweet fruit or body - this is light, tangy, fresh.
