Randy Dunn makes timeless, nearly ageless, benchmark Howell Mountain Cabernet. Here he's showing off his skill and style in a more open, ready to love now, way. It's 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc done in mostly new oak and super luscious in fruit and texture. As Suckling says in the 95 point review, "Bright and perfumed aromas of blackcurrants, blueberry bush, pencil shavings and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied with seamlessly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of red currants, mocha and tobacco leaves. Very refined and pure, with a touch of class. It will age gracefully. Drink or hold." A beautiful and delicious Cab.
For You If: You enjoy classic Napa Cabernet with plenty of savory and mineral complexity to go with the dark, rich, fruit; you enjoy Napa Cab with a bit of grip - this is NOTHING like the Howell Mountain bottling, but the tannins are definitely there.
Not For You If: You're after Napa Cab that feels thick or soft or want Bordeaux's comparative restraint - this is real Napa Cab in terms of ripeness, just with a bit more finesse and structure than you might expect.
