What a delicious "old school" red, one that harks back to the days when Gigondas was all about purity, minerality and - especially - deliciousness. As Wine Spectator says in the 92 point review, "Inviting notes of mulled cherry, rooibos tea and red licorice start off heady and rich in a velvety stream. Earthy and warm, with lovely elements of oolong, dried herbs and forest floor. Mineral energy moves through, with a cooling menthol accent on the harmonious finish. There's plenty of ripeness, but with the structure and energy to carry it. Loads of fresh fruit, garrigue, and stony minerality here. Well done." Compelling now and for 10+ years.
For You If: You like traditional Rhone reds that deliver plenty of power and fruit but avoid going jammy or fat; you're after a wine to drink with roast lamb - this will sing!
Not For You If: You're after the fleshy richness of Chateauneuf du Pape or the silky glide of Lirac - this is mineral, lightly chewy, and nicely earthy.
