Organic/Bio Lower ABV No one in Rousillon has done more to bring attention to the intense minerality and purity possible for white wines here than Marjorie and Stephane Gallet. Llum delivers that in a blend of Grenache Gris and Macabeu, a grape seen more often in Rioja across the Pyranese Mountains. The old vines planted between 1919 and 2008 and lees contact give this texture, the early picked grapes Valencia orange and while flower flavors and the barren schist soils add a decisive mineral understructure. This glides across your palate with satisfying weight and dazzling clarity. It’s pretty breathtaking. Biodynamic farming, minimal intervention winemaking, 12.5% alcohol.
For You If: You love wines that grab your attention and hold it firmly in place; you enjoy minerally, textured, wines that are still lower in alcohol like the wines of Savoie and really well-done white Rioja; you’re looking for a great pairing for swordfish!
Not For You If: You’re in the mood for generous fruit, any hint of nutty/buttery flavors or the spice and feel of new oak – this is more lean, fresh, and shows no oak influence at all.
