Lower ABV Pouilly Fume has always been the place Sancerre-lovers looked to for Sauvignon Blanc that captured the flavors and style of Sancerre with just at touch more flinty smoke – all at a slightly lower price! Lauverjat has always excelled here on soils that blend river deposits, Portlandian limestone and Kimmeridgian limestone. This is a classic with stone and citrus fruit, a decisive smoky gunflint minerality, and excellent concentration and texture before the dry, firm finish. Classy and delicious.
For You If: You like your Sauvignon Blanc to be more minerally than fruity and enjoy struck-flint minerality more than tropical fruit and grass; you’re about to have a beautiful warm goat cheese salad – this sings with that pairing!
Not For You If: You’re looking for the wilder, more tropical and grassy notes of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc – this has plenty of fruit, but in a more restrained, flinty, style.
